Nov 26, 2007

IND v PAK, 1st Test, day four, Delhi: India 32 runs away from victory over Pakistan
Nov 25, 2007
Sachin Tendulkar became the second-highest runmaker in test cricket when he made an unbeaten 32 as India moved purposefully towards victory in the first Test against Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla. Tendulkar (11,183) surpassed former Australian Allan Border's 11,174 runs and now has only retired West Indian Brian Lara currently ahead of him with 11,953.When bad light stopped play, the hosts were 32 runs short of taking a 1-0 series lead. Wasim Jaffer struck a fluent 53 after India lost the wicket of Dinesh Kaarthick cheaply to go into lunch at three for one. It was Jaffer's ninth half-century as he put on 82 for the second wicket with Rahul Dravid before former captains Ganguly and Tendulkar added 78 in an unfinished fourth-wicket stand.
Earlier in the morning, India skittled out the remaining five Pakistan wickets for only 35 runs on the fourth day. The tourists tottered from 212 for five to 247 all out.
IND v PAK, 1st Test, Delhi (day four, stumps): Pakistan 231 & 247; India 276 & 171-3
IND v PAK, 1st Test, day three, Delhi: Pakistan 212 for five at close
Nov 24, 2007
Pakistan were 212 for five in their second innings at close on the third day of the first cricket Test against India at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground today.
The visitors have an overall lead of 167 with five wickets in hand.
Earlier, VVS Laxman was left stranded on 72 as Danish Kaneria polished off the Indian tail before it could wag on the slow and low Ferozeshah Kotla track.
Shot out for 276, India had to be satisfied with a 45-run lead as Pakistan conceded 48 runs to claim the last four wickets in 14.4 overs this morning.
IND v PAK, 1st Test, Delhi (day three, stumps): Pakistan 231 & 212-5; India 276 all out
IND v PAK, 1st Test, day two, Delhi: Laxman and Dhoni prop up the Indian innings
Nov 23, 2007
India ended at 228 for 6, three runs behind the Pakistan first innings score of 231.
Pakistan earlier added 21 runs to their overnight total of 210-8 before being all out, with tailender Mohammad Sami remaining unbeaten with 28.
India needed luck to break a stubborn 87-run stand for the ninth wicket between Sami and middle-order batsman Misbah-ul-Haq, who was run out after adding 11 to his overnight score of 71. Misbah tried to beat a Kartik throw from point, but both his feet and bat were in the air when the ball hit the stumps at the non-striker's end.
India heaved a sigh of relief to see the back of Misbah who had defied the hosts' attack for more than five hours, hitting one six and six fours in his 243-ball knock. Leg-spinner Anil Kumble ended the innings when he bowled last-man Danish Kaneria for a duck to finish with 4-38 in his first Test as captain.
IND v PAK, 1st Test, Delhi (day two, stumps): Pakistan 231; India 228-6
IND v PAK, 1st Test, day one, Delhi: Misbah, Sami take Pakistan to 210 for 8
Nov 22, 2007
Electing to bat, Pakistan were tottering at 142 for eight before a defiant unbeaten 68-run ninth wicket partnership between Misbah-ul-Haq (71 not out) and Mohammad Sami (20 not out) steered the team to 210 for eight at close on the opening day at Ferozshah Kotla.
Anil Kumble's first day as India's Test captain ended on a rather frustrating note with the two Pakistani batsmen playing out the entire third session before bad light forced play to be called off with four overs still remaining. Misbah also featured in a 39-run stand with Akmal (30). Misbah's 204-ball stellar knock included five boundaries and a six, while Sami was unbeaten on 20 off 77 balls, hitting two fours and a six.
IND v PAK, 1st Test, Delhi (day one, close): Pakistan 210-8 v India
IND v PAK, 1st Test, Delhi: New India captain Kumble faces Pakistan test
Nov 22, 2007
Anil Kumble returns to his happy hunting ground here on Thursday in the opening Test against Pakistan, hoping to begin his new innings as India captain on a winning note.
India's last Test against Pakistan at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here in 1999 was a personal triumph for the leg-spinner, who became only the second bowler after Englishman Jim Laker to bag 10 wickets in an innings.
Kumble, the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history on 566 after retired Australian Shane Warne (708) and Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan (704), is a proven match-winner with disciplined bowling and subtle variations. But his turn as captain in this high-pressure three-Test series will be a different challenge altogether, with the 37-year-old holding the key to his nation's fortunes on pitches expected to favour spin.
Pakistan have reliable batsmen in Mohammad Yousuf, vice-captain Younis Khan and skipper Shoaib Malik to put pressure on the Indian attack. The trio will have an added responsbility in the absence of a settled opening pair.
Pakistan tried two different opening combinations in a two-Test series at home against South Africa last month, but have yet to find a durable pair. Left-handed Salman Butt alone has cemented his place as an opener following his impressive one-day performances on the current tour.
Pakistan expect fiery paceman Shoaib Akhtar to deliver in a bid to contain a strong Indian batting line-up. He has been steadily regaining form and fitness after serving a 13-match ban. Akhtar was suspended primarily for hitting teammate Mohammad Asif with a bat ahead of the Twenty20 World Championships in South Africa in September, but showed glimpses of his old form in the recent one-dayers against India.
